Renaissance Rumford™ 1000

Every part of the Renaissance has been engineered to meet the highest standards of durability. Here are a few of the many features that make it so resilient.

Ceramic Glass Hideaway Door

This is the same glass used in wood stove doors. Making the mechanical components durable enough that they never need to be serviced requires expensive hardware, detailed engineering and precision laser fabrication. The door is both beautiful and functional; we’ve eliminated stress placed on the door by making it operate so smoothly that it can be lifted with a single finger. The entire guillotine door mechanism can be removed and serviced at any time, even after the fireplace has been fully finished.  Simply lowering the door makes the Renaissance a much more efficient fireplace.

The Firebox and Throat

The entire firebox and throat are lined with Skamol, a material which is durable at the highest temperatures achieved in the Renaissance. It is widely-used as a wood stove firebox liner used by over 80 manufacturers worldwide and has been produced for close to 25 years. Extensive (actually abusive) testing in our laboratory has indicated that not only will it withstand high temperatures, but it will retain its shape and appearance when used on a daily basis.

Heavy-Duty Steel Construction

A typical pre-fabricated wood burning fireplace weighs less than 200 lbs, often closer to 100. Most of the Renaissance’s weight (approx. 750lbs) comes from heavy steel construction. With 20 years of experience fabricating clean-burning, built-in stoves we know how they are used and abused in the field. We built the Renaissance the same way we build RSF Fireplaces, so they can be used on a daily basis and last as long as your house.

The Chimney

The Renaissance uses only Model RIS chimney which is listed to UL 103HT, the UL Standard for chimneys capable of withstanding repeated chimney fires. It is also the highest standard that any large diameter chimney is certified to. Model RIS is also the only large diameter chimney with a lifetime replacement warranty, even in the event of a chimney fire and it even helps contribute to our efficiency numbers.

Note 1: The shape of the Rumford firebox is not square, therefore depending upon where and how you place your logs, different sized pieces may fit. Laid flat, 20” logs will fit nicely at the front of the firebox, but only 13” logs will fit at the back. Stacked in a tipi style, longer logs will fit easily, however, we don’t recommend ever using logs longer than 24” in length.

Note 2: These fireplaces have an access panel to accept an aftermarket gas log assembly. You may not install a gas lighter in any Renaissance fireplace because the high firebox temperatures will burn out the log lighter very quickly.

Note 3: All Renaissance Fireplaces™ come equipped to accept a 4'' outside air duct, depending upon the length a 5'' duct can also be used.

Note 4: The Renaissance Rumford™ fireplace is environmentally friendly and provides a magnificent view of the fire. It is approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It is:

  • Typically burning at a rate of 4 kg/hr.
  • Clean-burning with an emission rate of 3.00 g/kg when burned with the door open and the firescreen closed as tested with ASTM 2558 test protocol, ASTM 2558: Standard Test Method for Determining Particulate Matter Emissions from Fires in Low Mass Wood Burning Fireplaces
  • Clean-burning with an emission rate of 1.00g/kg when burned with the door closed as tested with ASTM 2558 test protocol.
  • Clean-burning with an equivalent emission rate (EPA method 5H) of 3.94 g/hr when burned with the door closed.
  • Exempt as per the EPA Stove test protocol.
